href="http://www.linuxreaders.com/" target="_blank">LinuxReaders.com during year 2009.

These are not just popular viewed articles but are the best of my selection. These are useful for any linux admin to ease routine tasks.

1) Change Ubuntu 9.10 Resolution
By default Ubuntu 9.10 supports 1024×768 resolution, which is not enough for me. I needed to increase it to 1240×1024. To achive my desired resolution I run through few commands. Its easy, take a look.

2) Root login on Ubuntu 9.10
As I have already expressed my love with root access in previous post, this time I was looking for a way to use root login for GUI. One of my colleague who loves Ubuntu found simple way to login root over GUI

3) NConf Installation & Configuration
NConf is a PHP based web-tool for configuring the Nagios monitoring software. The tool is based on PHP / MySQL.

4) Root login on Fedora 12
Root Login on Fedora is not as easy as Ubuntu Root Login, here you need to modify two files to get root access.

5) Play MP3 files on Ubuntu 9.10
After installing 9.10 didn’t play mp3 files.
Whenever I tried playing mp3 files using Totem Movie Player did not played mp3 files. Although it tried searching for plugin but no plugin was found.

6) Squid Proxy
Squid is a caching proxy server.
Squid is a caching proxy for the Web supporting HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, and more. It reduces bandwidth and improves response times by caching and reusing frequently-requested web pages. Squid has extensive access controls and makes a great server accelerator. It runs on most available operating systems, including Windows and is licensed under the GNU GPL.

7) Virtualization using Xenserver
I have implemented Xenserver for Virtualization. I feel this is better than community version of VMware Server & equipped with more features.

For any organization it is necessary to have fastest & economical way to communicate.
Consider you have few hundred branches spread all over the country, will this be viable solution to communicate over telephone lines?

9) Ubuntu- Sudo without password
I am Linux Admin, my routine job is to maintain proxy, nagios & mail server. I always use root user for my servers. Thus I am used to full rights.

10) Upgrade Fedora 11 to 12 -using shell
Earlier we have covered upgrading Ubuntu to the latest version. There only one command required for the upgradation. Here procedure is bit lengthy.

11) Nagios Installation
In current world everything is available online, every organization is trying to reduce their downtime. Almost all Data Centers are running hundreds of services. /> Consider you have few hundred branches spread all over the country, will this be viable solution to communicate over telephone lines?
During this period of recession companies are trying cut cost at max. Email is smarter way for communication but you’ll never get flexibility of messenger.

You may use gtalk / yahoo / msn messenger but this will never let all communications be recorded at central level. Organizations needs to keep records of all communications.

In today’s digital world you get pre-sales / post-sales support over Internet.
Open fire messenger server can be used for all this, you can keep records, have number of ids, enable client support over web.
I am using this at my Office for internal & branch communication.

<img
