Play Divx / MP3 files on Ubuntu

Update:
This works with latest version – ubuntu 12.04.

After installing 9.10 didn’t play mp3 files.
Whenever I tried playing mp3 files using Totem Movie Player did not played mp3 files. Although it tried searching for plugin but no plugin was found.

Before installing any coded / VLC player I run following command, which updated list of the packages.

sudo apt-get update

Make sure you have totem movie player installed, if not use following command to install.

sudo apt-get install totem -y

Once the update was done, I again tried playing divx / mp3 files using Movie player, now while searching for required pluin prompt for list of the packages to be installed. After installation I was able to play mp3 files.
